GLA:D Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis Townsville
Live a ‘Good Life with Arthritis: Denmark’
What is GLA:D Townsville?
GLA:D®, Good Life with osteoArthritis: Denmark, is an education and exercise program developed by researchers in Denmark for people with hip or knee osteoarthritis (OA) symptoms.
Research from the GLA:D® program in Australia shows an average pain reduction of 36%, improvements in function and levels of physical activity, reduction in perceived need for surgery and the need for medications, and clinically meaningful improvement in joint confidence.
Education and exercise is applied to everyday activities, ensuring you develop skills to self-manage your osteoarthritis (OA). Through strengthening and improving confidence with exercise, you will develop a better capacity to become or stay active, prevent symptom progression and reduce pain. It’s no wonder that our GLA:D® patients demonstrate high satisfaction with our program.
GLA:D – Treatment for Knee & Hip Arthritis (OA)
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a very common condition, more-so than high blood pressure and diabetes, and is the leading cause of physical inactivity in people aged over 65. Osteoarthritis has risk factors which can not be modified such as:
- Structural problems with the hip joint (hip dysplasia, femoroacetabular impingement)
- Advancing age
- Hereditary
- Previous damage or injury to the hip
and other risk factors such as obesity, physical inactivity, muscle weakness, overload from sport, can be directly address through GLA:D, utilising targeted exercise and management, education and lifestyle modifications.
Our professionally educated GLA:D Physiotherapists can discuss benefits and side effects of treatment options available in clinic and best practice.
Who can take part in GLA:D?
The Physio Movement GLA:D program can be helpful for people of all ages living with Osteoarthritis (OA) of the Hip and Knee joints.
